St. Gerardusstraat Bridge, Emmen

forked towers

This bicycle bridge near the St. Gerardusstraat (street) is a cable-stayed bridge with two forked towers. Its tower structure allows for a slender bridge deck, which in turn decreases the height difference that cyclists need to cross. And the shorter the necessary slope, the easier it is to fit into the location.

improvement

The bicycle bridge is part of a project that also includes an oval roundabout for road traffic. Both bridges cross the Emmen ring road and have been built to increase traffic flow on the city’s main roads.
